Having controlled the senate for eight years and equally seen the #Peoples Democratic Party lose control of their majority influence to become minority in the upper chamber, David Mark explained that the #All Progressives Congress has the numbers and as such are better placed to produce the next president of the senate.
A source within the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party, who revealed the latest twist to a correspondent of Newsbeatportal on Monday June 8, 2015, disclosed that Senator Mark turned down the offer even after being pressured to run for the position by some key figures in his inner caucus.
Had he accepted to run for the position of the senate president and eventually wins the election, he would have become the first man in the history of #Nigeria‘s democratic era to rule for 12 years and three successive terms.
Clearly, the odds favoured him and the Peoples Democratic Party, following the internal lingering crisis that has befallen the All Progressives Congress; a crisis that even the National Working Committee of the party could not resolve at the weekend.
As things stand, the All Progressives Congress will be fielding two candidates for the Tuesday’s senate president election and whoever has the backing of the #PDP senators-elect would surely emerge the senate president of the eighth National Assembly.
The odds, at the moment, has now shifted to Senator Bukola Saraki.
