The #Peoples Democratic Party was brushed aside disgracefully from the Presidency which they have held on to for virtually sixteen years during the March presidential election, paving the way for the ruling #All Progressives Congress to have a taste of power at the centre.
Having rid the party of contentious men such as #Chief Tony Anenih from the party’s Board of Trustees and former National Chairman #Dr Mu’azu, the #PDP appears to be heading towards the right direction of consolidating on whatever they have now in attempt to mount a serious challenged during the 2019 general elections in the country.
The crisis which rocked the party that eventually led to their losing grip of the presidency may have come to end following recent developments within the party; the successful showing of the party during the National Assembly elections has proven to a great extent that the party, which was once marred by disunity and seed of discord, is becoming united. The ever growing unity within the party was demonstrated few days ago with the successful election of Ondo’s Olusegun Mimiko as the #Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Basking on the euphoria of this new found peace and unity within the party, #Governor Mimiko declared after his election that the PDP has commenced the process of taking back power from the All Progressives Congress during the next general elections.
According to The Punch, Mimiko said the governors were determined to give the PDP a new face as the opposition party, and have equally pledged to collectively work assiduously and excel in governance with a view to re-branding the party and selling it to all Nigerians.
He said, “We must sustain enthusiasm in our party; and as governors who have pivotal roles to play in re-branding our party, we must show in governance term the difference between us and the #APC and these are the challenges ahead of us.
“As opposition party, our engagement will be robust; we must offer alternative policy platform and programme when we criticise one. We must show Nigerians that we are a different party. We will not be abusive in opposing the government and we will praise where it is worthy of praise and criticise in a very robust manner”
Anyone who had ever considered the thought of having PDP go extinct from the political terrain in Nigeria need to have rethink, because the party has survived and are on their way back to greatness.
Watch out APC, the PDP is back.
