Senate Summons NNPC Over State Of Refineries

The Senate on Wednesday agreed to summon the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation  to appear before its relevant committees as soon as they are constituted to account for the of the existing .

The red chamber also urged the Federal Government to revamp existing refineries and create enabling environment for private investors to invest in refineries.

It equally urged the Federal Road Safety Commission to arrange regular training for tanker drivers in the country in order to reduce their reckless driving.

Ashafa, who represents East, noted with serious concern the spate of fuel tanker explosions on the nation’s highways, stressing that the ugly situation raised the question about what had become of the rail line project of the immediate past administration.


The senate of the is expected to build upon what the seventh Assembly achieved and equally go a step ahead towards achieving more.

It is therefore not surprising that they have decided to tackle a sector that contributes a huge percentage of the revenue stream of the economy.

However, there are fears if the senate can really live up to its billings and ensure adequate investigation into why the refineries have failed in the past.

In any case, should the senate succeeds in pulling the strings towards initializing the process that would see the refineries in the country revamped and work in optimum capacity, then that feat alone would be a contender for one of the greatest achievements of the Eighth National Assembly.
