Taraba Tribunal: INEC Denies Supervising PDP Primaries

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday told the Taraba Petition that it did not supervise the Peoples Democratic () primaries that produced candidates for April 11 2015 governorship poll in the state.

Appearing at the Taraba State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, INEC said the PDP primary election was conducted in violation of provision of the law, which mandated INEC to be present, to supervise and observe the conduct of the poll.

An INEC staff and witness to one of the petitioners Aminu Idris, told the tribunal while giving evidence that none of the INEC official was in attendance.

But counsel to PDP, Solomon Akuma, countered the claims and tendered document to show that a primary was conducted that produced Darius Ishaku as the party’s governorship candidate in that election.

Hajia Aida Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress is challenging the election of PDP candidate in the April governorship poll.
